A new month a new project! I’m joining three very awesome ladies on a business adventure this month. Jackie, Lesley, Sherisa and I are working with each other to really step up our businesses this year. We’ll be swapping blog posts with each other, and I hope you join us along the way.
To get started, here’s a bit about where I am. I started Ankara & Lace in 2010 on nothing short of a whim. It turns out, whims don’t get you very far and here I am, nearly two years later and totally stalled, on the side of the road, watching fumes escape the business, so to speak. I need a jump start, badly. When Sherisa approached me with this idea earlier this year, it was just the push I needed to get Ankara & Lace rolling again.
Over the next 12 months, I want to take Ankara & Lace from a tiny, slow one-sale-a-month operation to a vibrant business. Here are my SMART goals for 12 months from now:
1. Have a solid business and marketing framework written down.
2. Make $5000 monthly in retail and wholesale.
3. Serve 100 customers monthly.
4. Have 5000 people on the Ankara & Lace email list
5. Have a complete branding and identity system for marketing purposes in place.
I’ve learned a lot over the past four years working and hustling full time and one of the most powerful lessons is that small steps add up to gigantic leaps. So here are the small steps I’m taking over the next three months and during the month of March.
Three months from now I will have
1. Drafted a business and marketing plan.
2. Launched the Spring/Summer Line.
3. Served 30 new customers.
4. Pitched 50 media outlets.
And by the end of March I will have
1. Completed production on the Spring/Summer pieces
2. Completed branding and photography for Spring/Summer
3. Pitched 20 media outlets
This is all I’ve got for now. I’ve gotta go, but you make sure to check out Jackie, Lesley and Sherisa!
I love this! I can’t wait to see you all succeed! Work it out! I’m working on something similar. I decided this year (I’m 31) that I would infuse more Art into my daily life for the first 31 days! It was so exciting that after those 31 days were up I continued to blog. My current 31 day installment is all about The ART of the LAUNCH! I’m launching projects, ideas, dreams, passions, events etc., over the next 31 days and blogging about the behind the scenes stuff that I usually keep to myself! Like minds are inspiring! Seriously, I just got a bolt of creativity! Thank you!!!
Thanks Jolyn! At the time when Sherisa came to me about this project, I figured it was just the thing I need to get my butt in gear. The ART of the LAUNCH! I look forward to seeing your progress as well. Take care! – jackie
And I’m so glad you joined in, Jackie. I’ve known you for years now. It’s all about support and sisterhood. xo
Thank you Jolyn! We will all succeed. It is going to be monumental. I’ve been by your blog before. Good work! I actually did 29 at 29 and now I have something new since I’m 30.
Thanks for visiting my blog, Sherisa! What were some of your highlights from your 29 at 29 experience?

I love where this is going! Doesn’t writing goals down just make you feel motivated? (I love crossing things off.)
Even small steps can feel so monumental. Bit by bit we will all get where we want to be.
Oh! I also love how you’ve broken your goals down into manageable chunks. I totally need to do that so things don’t seem so overwhelming.
Yes Ann! I really like your goals. You’ve made a small amount to tackle for the year and that’s actually pretty brilliant. It really helps to focus on exactly what you want to achieve. Priorities first and all that. Can’t wait to see how you shape up during the month.
